Tragic Consequences: When Abortion Claims the Lives of Women and Their Children

---Free to Share on Your Media Platforms---

Amber Thurman and Candi Miller were two beautiful Black women from Georgia who should still be with us but are not—one because the medical community hesitated in providing the emergency medical care needed to save her life, and the second because of fear rooted in a lie. There is no pro-life law in Georgia that results in the incarceration of a woman for seeking emergency care, nor of a physician who provides it.

One can’t help but wonder if these women knew or were informed of the inherent dangers of the abortion pill. The warnings on the packaging make clear that prolonged heavy bleeding and serious bacterial infection, and sepsis can also occur. One can’t help but wonder if Amber and Candi knew the risks before they took the pill. One can’t help but wonder if the pills provided were in packaging that included the warning, or were they simply provided two pills, with instructions on when to take them.

Attempts were made to place a billboard in Atlanta and Virginia to get women thinking about the dangers. The billboard from the Restoration Project would read, “The Abortion Pill. Be afraid. Be very afraid.”

However, in this political environment, where a presidential candidate is strongly advocating for abortion and used the death of Amber Thurman to promote it, the billboard company refuses to place it, calling it a negative ad. Any reference to the abortion pill would not be allowed on their platform, even if the messaging is true.

Five people in Georgia lost their lives to abortion in 2022—Amber and her twins, Candi and her child. There is no way to know how many more have died or suffered serious injury due to a lack of reporting. However, the FDA estimates that 2.9% to 4.6% of medication abortion patients will seek emergency medical treatment due to life-threatening infection and prolonged bleeding.

Candi ordered her pills by mail. She believed that she would suffer legal consequences if she sought medical care. Her fear resulted in her suffering days of infection and hemorrhaging that ultimately took her life when a short ride to the nearest emergency facility could have addressed her medical needs.

Amber and Candi’s deaths are being used to promote even more death. In a time when the right to life is challenged by the abortion industry on every front, their deaths should be mourned rather than used as a cause. Their deaths should not be used for the promotion of a national mandate for abortion on demand at all gestational ages.

America has arrived at a point where she must weigh whether the inalienable right to life of the child in the womb is greater than the right to choose abortion. America must decide whether the inalienable right to life includes the right of the mother to be free of the targeting that abortionists have used to lure her into their clinics, where their services sometimes end in her death.
