Each week, BPALiveWire’s Voices in the Public Square shines a spotlight on influential leaders who amplify the diversity of perspectives within the Black community. This week, we’re thrilled to feature Tanisha Watson, Chief Excitement Officer of Planned To A Tee, an event planning company that turns milestones into memories. In a refreshing twist, we posed a series of questions to Tanisha, diving into her career journey, inspirations, and the values that guide her impactful work. From her beginnings organizing high school fundraisers to founding a channel dedicated to giving, Tanisha embodies the spirit of service and celebration.
BPALiveWire: What is your day job? What inspired you to pursue your current path or career?
Tanisha Watson: I am the Chief Excitement Officer of Planned To A Tee. We plan weddings, social, corporate events, and destination planning for weddings and groups. I’ve always had a knack for organizing events starting with friends' birthdays and as part of the pom-pom squad in high school, I would organize fundraisers and events.
BPALiveWire: If you could spend a day doing anything you wanted, what would it be?
Tanisha Watson: I would be lounging on a beach or pool deck of a cruise ship.
BPALiveWire Challenges and Triumphs: What accomplishment are you most proud of,
and why?
Tanisha Watson: Starting the Giving Channel has been one of the accomplishments that I am proud of. The opportunity to showcase various charities through giving is a legacy that I am proud to leave.
BPALiveWire Influences and Role Models: Are there specific individuals or ideas that inspire your work or creative process?
Tanisha Watson: The idea of serving others during their most happy moments in life
inspires me. Weddings and milestone events are always uplifting.
BPALiveWire Philosophy and Values : How do you approach success and failure in your endeavors
Tanisha Watson: I think humility is the approach for both success and failures. So as I celebrate wins I give glory to God and for the failures, I thank Him for those because it’s how you grow and learn.
BPALiveWire Advice for Others: If you could offer one piece of advice to your younger self or to others pursuing similar paths, what would it be?
Tanisha Watson: Don’t look at the end result of an event to make a decision to have a career in the industry. It’s the start and the middle that are the most challenging. The event is like game day. We’ve been preparing and now it’s time to execute. And like in sports, the ball can be dropped but we need to have the skills and experience to turn the game around because there are no do overs. Like they say in golf, no mulligans.
BPALiveWire: What message or advice would you give to BPALiveWire readers who aspire to follow a similar path?
Tanisha Watson: Take heed to the saying “Collaboration over competition.” In the intimate world of the event industry, networking is a gateway to a broader community of professionals. As you actively engage in networking activities, you'll uncover the interconnectedness of our industry and the opportunities that lie within.
BPALiveWire Are there specific books, movies, or art that have had a profound impact on you?
Tanisha Watson: Pastor Robert Morris's book, "The Blessed Life," has left an indelible
impression on my life. It has become an annual read for me, akin to the significance of the Bible, providing me with continuous guidance and inspiration throughout the year.
