WASHINGTON, April 8, 2025 /BPALiveWire/Dr. Alveda King stepped into her new role as Senior Adviser to the Faith Office at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). A civil rights advocate, a prolific author, and an unwavering champion of life and liberty, Dr. King arrives ready to work —her lifelong devotion to faith, family, and freedom matches beautifully with the USDA’s mission to uplift rural heartlands and forgotten corners of America. Joining her in this bold new chapter at the USDA are Aubrey Bettencourt, Jentre Kennedy, Trey Forsyth, Christopher “Chris” Berardi, and Dr. Jaye Hamby—each bringing their own expertise and passion to amplify the agency’s outreach.

The swearing-in ceremony was one to remember.  After taking her oath, Dr. King, ever the beacon of joy, lifted her voice in an impromptu rendition of “This Little Light of Mine”—a melody woven into her spirit from childhood, echoing the resilience of the civil rights movement and the warmth of her faith. What began as a solo soon had the entire room sounding like a chorus as she encouraged those in attendance to join her.  Dr. King's life has always been to serve.  She is now poised to shine her light alongside the USDA’s mission.

“I am deeply honored to step into this role as Senior Adviser to the Faith Office,” Dr. King declared, her words brimming with conviction. “This is a divine calling, and I am ready to pour my heart into serving.”

Dr. King is excited about this new role and eager to establish connections between the USDA and faith-based organizations nationwide.  She believes that forming a network of support to bolster food security, strengthen community resilience, and revitalize rural America is of the utmost importance.  Her mission is clear: to empower faith leaders as catalysts for change, tackling hunger, housing, and the restoration of hope in America’s most overlooked places.

What makes Dr. King the perfect choice for this appointment is that it is not just an appointment for her, but as a registered farmer, she feels it is a calling.  She traded her home garden for the expansive canvas of small-scale farming in 2024—a journey she calls “a tangible harvest of blessings.” Rooted in stewardship and gratitude, her hands-on experience in agriculture fills her leadership with authenticity and depth. She doesn’t just advocate for growth; she embodies it, nurturing both crops and communities with equal care.

Her appointment—alongside those of her fellow appointees—arrives at a turning point for the USDA, as Secretary Brooke Rollins steers the agency toward a fresh new values-driven leadership and grassroots empowerment. With a focus on unity, economic opportunity, and dismantling bureaucratic barriers, the department is embracing a bold vision—one Dr. King and her colleagues are uniquely equipped to advance.
